Althafen Foundation Benefit Concert at the Berlin Philharmonie

  • Berliner Philharmonie Chamber Hall 1 Herbert-von-Karajan-Straße Berlin, BE, 10785 Germany (map)

Franck | Gershwin | Migó | Schubert

Music builds bridges, fosters friendships, and nurtures mutual understanding. On October 17 at 7:00 p.m., the Althafen Foundation will host a benefit concert to support its 23 projects and four support programs.

The Foundation's artistic director, Belarusian-American cellist Mark Prihodko, will be joined on stage by American-Korean pianist Ben Kim (winner of the ARD International Music Competition) and the Alinde Quartet (portrait artists at the Cologne Philharmonie).

The program for the evening features outstanding masterpieces such as Franz Schubert's only String Quintet—his longest chamber work, written shortly before his early death—and an arrangement of César Franck's Violin Sonata in A major for cello and piano. Marcel Proust, fascinated by Franck's refined use of motifs, wrote with admiration about the “idea that rises from waves of sound.”
