About the Musicians

Yehjin Chun


South Korean cellist Yehjin Chun studied at the Berlin University of the Arts under Prof. Konstantin Heidrich and Prof. Jens Peter Maintz, completing her concert exam in 2021 under Prof. Wolfgang Emanuel Schmidt at the Weimar Academy of Music. She has won numerous awards at national and international competitions, including the Asia Youth Competition in Singapore, and was a finalist at the 2018 Isang Yun Competition, receiving the Seong-Yawng Park Special Prize. Yehjin has performed as a soloist with orchestras like the Thuringian Philharmonic, the Jena Philharmonic, and the Tongyeong Festival Orchestra. She regularly performs with Metamorphosen Berlin and plays a 1705 Giovanni Grancino cello from Milan.

Leonard Disselhorst


Leonard Disselhorst began his musical education as a young student at the Hanover University of Music before studying under Prof. Martin Ostertag in Karlsruhe and Prof. Jens Peter Maintz in Berlin. His education was further enriched by studies with the Artemis Quartet and Günter Pichler. Leonard has performed with renowned conductors, including Sir Dennis R. Davies and Sir Simon Rattle. As a soloist and chamber musician, he has won several prestigious awards, including 1st Prize and all special prizes at the Concours de Genève. He is a founding member of the vision string quartet, which received the OPUS KLASSIK for its debut album with Warner. In September 2021, their album SPECTRUM was released, featuring original compositions and arrangements. He plays a Gaetano Antoniazzi cello from 1892.

Benjamin Lai


Taiwanese-American cellist Benjamin Lai was born in California and began cello lessons at age four with Mikhail Gelfandbein, a former student of Mstislav Rostropovich. At 14, he moved to Berlin alone to study under Prof. Jens Peter Maintz as a junior student. After completing his high school studies, he continued under Prof. Heinrich Schiff in Vienna and Prof. Julian Steckel in Munich. Since October 2021, Benjamin has been preparing for his concert exam at the Lübeck Academy of Music with Prof. Troels Svane. He has attended masterclasses with Janos Starker, Yo-Yo Ma, David Geringas, and others. As a prizewinner of numerous international cello competitions (Popper, Dotzauer, Hindemith, TONALi Grand Prix, Janigro), Benjamin has performed at prestigious venues such as the Konzerthaus Berlin, Laeiszhalle in Hamburg, and the Musikverein in Vienna. He plays a 1735 Domenico Montagnana cello ("ex-Olevsky").
