As part of the Philharmonic "Portrait" series dedicated to Wolfgang Rihm, the Alinde Quartet appears in a unique configuration. Rihm's 2000 "Concerto" for string quartet and orchestra, also known as "Dithyrambe," takes center stage, framed by the Deutsche Kammerphilharmonie Bremen performing works by Bartók and Beethoven.
Bartók's "Pictures from Hungary" captures the vibrant energy of Eastern European folklore, while Beethoven's 2nd Symphony, premiered in 1803, bursts with dynamic vitality. According to one contemporary critic, Beethoven's final wild bars evoke the thrashing tail of a wounded dragon! Under the baton of Duncan Ward, the orchestra brings this infectious energy to life.
