As part of the philharmonic "Portrait" series dedicated to him, the Alinde Quartet can be experienced in a completely unusual line-up. In 2000 Wolfgang Rihm wrote a "Concerto" for string quartet and orchestra. It is framed by the Deutsche Kammerphilharmonie Bremen with works by Bartók and Beethoven.
While the great contemporary German composer Rihm has made use of older string quartets for the concert, also called "Dithyrambe", Béla Bartók's "Pictures from Hungary" reflect the enthusiasm and drive of Eastern European folklore. Finally, in Beethoven's 2nd Symphony, which was premiered in Vienna in 1803, the orchestra and conductor Duncan Ward present themselves with contagious kinetic energy. If you believe a contemporary critic, Beethoven actually captured the violently twitching tail beats of a pierced dragon with the last wild bars!
