about

History

The initiative aims to leverage music education and performance opportunities as transformative tools for young individuals and their community. By imparting essential life skills such as hard work, commitment, teamwork, focus, and self-belief, it seeks to empower youth to navigate and overcome the multifaceted challenges they encounter daily. This endeavour fosters a sense of familial support, providing inner strength to confront these challenges.

This community initiative extends its reach to over 500 children within Korogocho and an additional 1000 children spread across nine satellite areas around Nairobi, one in Kiambu, and four in Mombasa, all through the transformative Orchestra for Schools Initiative.

Mission

Ghetto Classics transcends the conventional boundaries of a music program; it stands as a beacon of hope in communities grappling with urban poverty. Encompassing over 1500 young minds, this initiative by the Art of Music Foundation seeks to harness the transformative potential of music education and performance opportunities.

Beyond the musical notes and harmonies, Ghetto Classics becomes a catalyst for change, imparting indispensable life skills to the youth facing daily urban poverty challenges. At its core, the Orchestra for Schools Initiative endeavours to instil essential life skills, including hard work, commitment, teamwork, focus, and self-belief.

These skills, interwoven with the melodies, become empowerment tools for young individuals navigating the multifaceted challenges that life in Korogocho and its satellite areas presents.

Ghetto Classics aspires to cultures to instigate resilience and determination, providing the youth with the inner strength needed to confront and overcome adversities.

Music

Ghetto Classics is not merely a music program; it's a force of positive change. By offering youth an avenue to explore their musical talents, the initiative propels them towards a future marked by resilience, creativity, and community engagement.

The impact reverberates far beyond the walls of the rehearsal space, creating ripples of inspiration that extend into homes and communities.

Our involvement

In the spirit of harmonizing hope, Ghetto Classics extends an invitation to witness the transformative power of music.

The Althafen foundation in partnership with The Art of Music Foundation's commitment to leveraging the language of melodies as a catalyst for change resonates with the belief that every child, regardless of their circumstances, deserves the chance to discover their potential and soar to new heights.

As the symphony of Ghetto Classics continues to unfold, it serves as a testament to the enduring power of music to empower, uplift, and unite communities in the pursuit of a harmonious future.
