With support from the Althafen Foundation, Metamorphosen expands its reach through strategic programming, logistical support, and access for rising artists. The orchestra curates performances that pair early-career musicians with world-renowned professionals, enabling them to perform side by side and learn through active collaboration—bridging generations through a shared artistic experience

Founded by violinist Indira Koch and cellist/conductor Wolfgang Emanuel Schmidt, Metamorphosen Berlin was established as a chamber orchestra dedicated to exploring both classical and contemporary works.

2010



The orchestra gained momentum, performing across Germany, Spain, and Switzerland, collaborating with renowned soloists such as Johannes Moser, Camille Thomas, Alban Gerhardt, and Gary Hoffman.

2012—2018

Metamorphosen Berlin expanded its repertoire by premiering compositions from notable composers such as Helmut Abel, Sören Nils Eichberg, and Enjott Schneider. The ensemble also participated in major European festivals, gaining recognition for its innovative programming.

2015—2020


The orchestra intensified its focus on young artist development, incorporating mentorship programs and providing performance opportunities for emerging soloists. They continued commissioning new works and expanding their global reach through international collaborations.

2021—2023


With ongoing partnerships and new commissions, Metamorphosen Berlin is planning further premieres, collaborations with contemporary composers, and an increased presence in leading concert halls across Europe. The orchestra aims to strengthen its role as a dynamic force in the classical music landscape, bridging tradition with modern innovation.
